Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Eight-hundred grams of gold worth Rs 47.36 lakh were seized from a woman passenger at the Trichy airport here, a customs official said on Monday.
The passenger was arriving from Singapore, the official said.
“On specific intelligence, officers of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Trichy Airport intercepted a lady passenger who arrived from Singapore on August 20, 2023. On examination of her luggage, gold chains weighing 800 gms valued at Rs 47.36 lakh were found and seized”, said the Trichy Customs official.

On Friday, the customs unit at Bengaluru airport seized gold weighing 267 grams after intercepting a passenger arriving from Dubai.
The gold was concealed in his baggage in the form of nuts and bolts.
Last week, the Air Customs unit at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital also arrested a passenger from Dubai after recovering 2.3 kilograms of gold paste from his baggage.
