🚀 Sunita Williams' ISS Mission: Spacewalks, Research, and a Record-Breaking Stay
March 11, 2025: Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams, who launched aboard the Boeing Starliner on June 5, 2024, for what was initially an eight-day mission, has now completed nine months in space due to unforeseen technical issues. Alongside fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, Williams remains on the International Space Station (ISS), awaiting her long-overdue return.

The delay stemmed from helium leaks and other technical glitches in Starliner’s first crewed mission, preventing their safe return. However, Williams’ return is now imminent, as the SpaceX Crew-10 mission is scheduled for March 12 or 13, with a handover procedure leading up to her departure on March 19.
Despite the extended stay, Williams has remained active and productive, contributing to multiple crucial tasks:
✅ ISS Maintenance & Repairs: Helped clean and maintain the station, replacing outdated instruments.
✅ Scientific Research: Contributed 900+ hours to 150+ unique scientific experiments alongside Nick Hague and Butch Wilmore.
✅ Physical Fitness: Undertook weight training in zero gravity to maintain strength and health.
✅ Breaking Spacewalking Records: Now holds the record for total spacewalk time by a female astronaut with 62 hours and 9 minutes, including two major spacewalks in January 2025.
