Are You a Fitbit User? Here’s Google’s Final Warning For You

Fitbit users must migrate to a Google account by February 2, 2026, or risk permanent deletion of their health and fitness data, Google warns in mass email alert.

March 31, 2025: Google has issued a firm ultimatum to all Fitbit users: migrate your Fitbit account to a Google Account by February 2, 2026, or face losing your entire history of health, fitness, and wellness data.

The tech giant, which acquired Fitbit in 2021 for $2.1 billion, has begun sending out warning emails to users globally. The message is clear—failure to switch will result in the permanent deletion of data including exercise history, heart rate, SpO2 metrics, sleep patterns, and more.

“If you want to keep using Fitbit, you must move to a Google Account by 2 February 2026,” the email reads.
“Your historical data will not be retained beyond this date (except where required by law), and your account will be deleted.”

While the migration has been encouraged since 2023, this marks Google’s most serious push yet. Users with newer Fitbit devices may already be using Google Accounts, as this step is often completed during the setup process.

⚙️ How to Export Your Fitbit Data Before Migration:

  1. Visit Fitbit’s settings page.
  2. Under the Settings menu, click ‘Data Export’.
  3. Click ‘Request Data’ under Export Your Account Archive.
  4. Confirm your request via the email you receive.
  5. You’ll get another email with a link to download your archive.
  6. Download and save your data securely.

📉 Troubles in Fitbit’s Recent Operations:

This ultimatum comes amidst technical issues affecting some Fitbit models. In January 2025, Google acknowledged battery overheating concerns with select Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 units, prompting a firmware update. While this update stabilizes performance, it may reduce battery life, requiring more frequent charging.

🔄 Background:

After clearing regulatory hurdles, Google began its Fitbit data merge process in 2023. However, the massive user base caused delays and deadline extensions. Now, with less than a year left, users must act swiftly to avoid losing valuable data.
