The X Owner Takes a Direct Dig at OpenAI, Stability AI, and Midjourney, Citing Concerns Over Anti-White Bias in LLMs
October 23, 2025: Tech billionaire and owner of xAI, Elon Musk, has reignited his feud with rival AI companies, launching a blistering attack on their large language models (LLMs) which he claims are inherently biased.
Musk’s comments were posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to a user who alleged that other AI models exhibit an “anti-white bias.”
The tweet by the xAI founder deployed a series of sharp wordplay to criticize his competitors, suggesting their company names are the opposite of their true nature:
“As expected, any given AI company will be the opposite of its name: OpenAI is closed, Stability is unstable, MidJourney isn’t mid, Anthropic is misanthropic,” Musk wrote.
He then took a specific, harsh jab at Anthropic, the creators of the Claude series of LLMs. Anthropic was co-founded by former members of OpenAI, including siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, and is focused on developing “safe and beneficial” AI.
Musk concluded his post by labeling the company’s flagship model, Claude, as “pure woke.”
Musk’s AI company, xAI, recently launched its own chatbot, Grok, which is integrated with X. Musk has repeatedly positioned Grok as a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that aims to avoid the “woke ideology” and political correctness he alleges is programmed into competing models like those from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. The billionaire’s latest remarks underscore the heated philosophical debate surrounding bias and safety guardrails in the rapidly expanding field of artificial intelligence.
