Netflix has unveiled a thrilling new teaser for the highly anticipated second season of Squid Game during its Geeked Week event in Atlanta.
The teaser, shared across Netflix’s social media platforms, offers a suspenseful glimpse of Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he faces a masked figure, gun in hand, signaling the intensity to come. The teaser hints at a fresh round of deadly challenges, with new contestants preparing to compete, underscored by a chilling voiceover in Korean saying, “We’re ready to start the game.”
Set three years after Gi-hun’s victory in season one, the plot follows his return to the game, now driven by vengeance. After abandoning plans to leave for the U.S., Gi-hun re-enters the arena with a renewed purpose, determined to take down the powers behind the deadly game. Alongside a new group of players, they once again compete for the colossal prize of 45.6 billion won.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk previously hinted that Gi-hun’s character would take a darker turn in this season, becoming far more serious in his quest for revenge. Hwang also teased the ongoing conflict between Gi-hun and the mysterious Front Man, which promises to be central to the upcoming season.
Since its explosive debut, Squid Game has become a cultural juggernaut, racking up 1.65 billion views within its first 28 days and becoming Netflix’s most-watched series ever. It made history at the Emmys, with Lee Jung-jae becoming the first Asian actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for a non-English show, while Hwang Dong-hyuk was the first Asian director to receive an Emmy in that category.
Hwang reflected on the journey since the first season in a heartfelt letter, expressing his excitement for fans to experience Gi-hun’s return. He also hinted that season 2 would build towards an epic showdown, with a third season set to follow in 2025.
Produced by Firstman Studio and executive produced by Kim Ji-yeon, Squid Game season 2 is set to debut on December 26, marking the return of one of Netflix’s most captivating stories.
