Disney’s The Princess Diaries is officially returning with a third installment, and fans couldn’t be more excited! The beloved franchise, which made Anne Hathaway a household name as Mia Thermopolis, is taking a big step forward with Crazy Rich Asians and Joy Ride director Adele Lim onboard to helm the project.
Lim expressed her excitement, saying, “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life.” She also emphasized that the film would continue to celebrate themes of female empowerment, joy, and mentorship.
Anne Hathaway, who starred in the first two films as the relatable teen-turned-princess of Genovia, will not only return to reprise her iconic role but also produce the film under her production company, Somewhere Pictures.
Debra Martin Chase, who produced the original movies, is returning to produce alongside Hathaway, while Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack will executive produce. The script is being written by Flora Greeson, and although plot details are still under wraps, fans can expect more royal adventures from Mia.
Hathaway has been teasing fans about the third movie since 2022, and this latest confirmation has sparked widespread excitement. She even took to Instagram to share the news with her fans, posting Variety‘s announcement along with a fun nod to Mia’s famous line from the original movie: “Shut up!”
While Julie Andrews’ involvement hasn’t been confirmed yet, the fanbase is hopeful to see her return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi. With all the excitement building, The Princess Diaries 3 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated continuation of the heartwarming and charming franchise.
