Tim Southee Disappointed After New Zealand’s Crushing Defeat Against Sri Lanka

New Zealand captain Tim Southee expressed his disappointment following his team’s defeat by an innings and 154 runs against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Galle.

Acknowledging the challenging conditions his team faced, Southee admitted, “Very tough, on the wrong side of a tough one,” in his post-match presentation.

Southee highlighted the specific difficulties of playing in subcontinental conditions, saying, “This is a tough place to come.” He reflected on the match and recognized that while the second Test was particularly challenging, New Zealand had opportunities to perform better in the first match of the series, where they could have “pushed on a bit harder.”

Looking forward, the New Zealand skipper emphasized the need to regroup after the series defeat. “Need to go home, regroup and go again,” he said, signaling his team’s resolve to bounce back. With New Zealand’s next Test match scheduled in India on October 16, Southee noted the similarity between playing conditions in India and Sri Lanka, implying that New Zealand would need to quickly adapt to these challenges.

Southee and his team now face the challenge of bouncing back as they prepare for their upcoming matches in similar conditions in India.
