Tom Felton, renowned for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise, is set to grace the screen once again, this time in Hansal Mehta’s ambitious ‘Gandhi’ series. The actor will embody the character of Josiah Oldfield, Gandhi’s esteemed companion during his formative years in London while pursuing legal studies. Pratik Gandhi takes on the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the series.
Joining Felton in this cinematic journey are a talented ensemble cast including Libby Mai, Molly Wright, Ralph Adeniyi, James Murray, Lindon Alexander, Jonno Davies, and Simon Lennon. Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Felton remarked, “I’m excited to be part of the journey of telling the story of Gandhi’s early years in London. It’s an important aspect of history that hasn’t been told on screen before, and to be working with Hansal & Pratik is an honour and pleasure.”
Director Hansal Mehta echoed Felton’s sentiments, expressing his privilege in working with such a talented ensemble. He emphasized the significance of Gandhi’s early years, particularly his transformative experiences in London and South Africa, as a tale ripe for exploration. Mehta remarked, “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s story, particularly his more formative years spent in London and South Africa, is a story for our times, an untouched but fertile tale of a young man who goes on a voyage of self-discovery, not knowing the impact he’d have on history and on our collective consciousness.”
Backed by Applause Entertainment, ‘Gandhi’ promises to be a captivating narrative that delves into the lesser-known aspects of Gandhi’s life, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the iconic figure’s journey toward becoming the Mahatma. With an esteemed international cast and a visionary director at the helm, the series is poised to leave a profound impact on viewers worldwide.
