"100% Communist Lunatic": Trump Calls Mira Nair's Son, Zohran Mamdani After NYC Mayoral Win

Former US President Donald Trump has unleashed a scathing attack on Indian-origin candidate Zohran Mamdani following the latter’s win in the Democratic primary for New York City’s mayoral race. Calling Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic,” Trump denounced the 33-year-old state assemblyman, known for his socialist leanings and progressive policies.

“He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social. He went on to mock Mamdani’s high-profile supporters, saying, “He’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him. Even our great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the history of our Country!”
Trump didn’t stop there. In a separate post, he suggested, possibly in jest, that Democrats nominate “Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President” and give Cabinet posts to the members of the progressive “Squad,” led by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC).

Zohran Mamdani, a New York State Assemblyman representing Queens, clinched the Democratic nomination with 43.5% of the vote and 90% of ballots counted. His win came after former governor Andrew Cuomo conceded the race, marking a seismic shift in New York’s political landscape. If victorious in the final election, Mamdani will become the city’s first Muslim mayor.
Mamdani, the son of celebrated Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and Ugandan-born Marxist scholar Mahmood Mamdani, has been a vocal supporter of progressive causes. His platform includes bold initiatives like universal childcare, rent freezes, and free bus service – policies aimed at easing the cost-of-living burden for average New Yorkers.
He has also drawn attention – and criticism – for his outspoken support for Palestinians, having accused Israel of “genocide,” a stance that has made him a top target for conservative figures like Trump.
Mamdani’s campaign was backed by prominent progressive figures such as Bernie Sanders and AOC, and by the Democratic Socialists of America – affiliations that moderate Democrats fear could alienate mainstream voters.
Regardless of partisan divides, Mamdani’s rise marks a growing influence of leftist politics within the Democratic Party and signals potential upheaval in the traditional power dynamics of New York City’s leadership.
