The assault, which took place in a region long troubled by militant violence, was claimed by the suicide wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — a group known for targeting security forces.
“A suicide bomber rammed a vehicle full of explosives into a military convoy,” a local government official told AFP, requesting anonymity. “Thirteen soldiers died, 10 others were wounded, and 19 civilians were injured in the blast.” Among the wounded are six children, who were injured when the roofs of two nearby houses collapsed due to the explosion’s impact.

According to officials, four of the injured soldiers are in critical condition. The attack underscores the ongoing threat in Pakistan’s tribal belt, especially in areas bordering Afghanistan.
Since the Taliban regained control of Kabul in August 2021, Pakistan has seen a spike in cross-border militant activity, with Islamabad accusing the Afghan Taliban of sheltering groups like the TTP. The Taliban, however, deny these allegations.

An AFP tally suggests that around 290 people, mostly security forces, have been killed in militant attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the beginning of 2025, marking a sharp uptick in extremist violence.
