13-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest Player Sold in IPL History at Mega Auction
Jeddah [Saudi Arabia], November 26 – The IPL 2025 Mega Auction created history as 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to be sold in the tournament’s history. Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured the Bihar-born prodigy for Rs 1.1 crore after an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals.
Born on March 27, 2011, Vaibhav is a rising cricket sensation. At just 12 years and 284 days old, he made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024, showcasing his precocious talent. His incredible century off 58 balls for India U19 against Australia in Chennai last month further solidified his reputation as a player to watch.
In his fledgling first-class career, Vaibhav has played five matches, scoring 100 runs, with a highest score of 41. He is also competing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, continuing his rapid rise in Indian cricket.
Despite their international acclaim, several big names failed to find buyers, including:
Sri Lanka’s Eshan Malinga, who has impressed in the Lanka Premier League and the Sri Lanka A setup, saw a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Malinga was eventually acquired by SRH for Rs 1.20 crore.
The auction continues to underline the IPL’s commitment to uncovering and nurturing young talent, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s historic signing standing out as the highlight of the day.
