21-Year-Old Detained For Sending Death Threat to Gautam Gambhir

April 28, 2025: Police have arrested a 21-year-old man from Gujarat in connection with a threatening email sent to cricketer and former BJP MP Gautam Gambhir. The accused, identified as Jigneshsinh Parmar, was apprehended by the Central District Police team and is currently being interrogated.

In a statement, Delhi Police revealed that Parmar, an engineering student, is believed to be suffering from mental health issues, according to his family. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.

The threat email was sent to Gambhir on April 22, the same day a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 civilians. The emails, which contained the chilling message “IKillU,” were received by Gambhir in two installments — one in the afternoon and another in the evening.

Upon receiving the threats, Gambhir approached the Delhi Police, seeking immediate action. He formally submitted a request for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) to the SHO of Rajinder Nagar Police Station and the DCP of Central Delhi. Additionally, he requested measures to ensure the safety of his family.

This is not the first time Gambhir has been subjected to such threats. In November 2021, during his tenure as a Member of Parliament, he also received a similar threat via email.

On Tuesday, Gambhir condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead after terrorists opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow. The attack has been described as one of the most horrific incidents in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on April 23 to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, with cross-border links highlighted in the briefing. The attack occurred following successful elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which have contributed to the region’s economic growth and development.

In response to the attack, India has decided to withdraw its Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The posts, along with five support staff, are now annulled as a security measure.
