December 29, 2024: A devastating plane crash at South Korea’s Muan International Airport claimed the lives of at least 28 people after a Boeing 737-800 aircraft veered off the runway during landing.

Emergency services were immediately deployed after the plane crashed into a fence during a failed belly-landing attempt and caught fire. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the crash site as rescue operations commenced.
So far, two survivors have been rescued from the rear section of the aircraft, while rescue teams continue evacuation and search operations.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok issued an urgent directive for all resources to be mobilized in rescue and recovery efforts.
“All related agencies must mobilize all available resources to save the personnel,” he said in a public statement.
This tragic incident comes just days after an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan, claiming 38 lives.
In that incident, Flight J2-8243 crashed after being unable to land at Grozny Airport in Russia due to Ukrainian drone attacks in the region.
Authorities in South Korea have launched an investigation into the crash, with initial reports suggesting bird strikes as the potential cause of the landing gear failure.
As rescue efforts continue, families of the victims await updates while the aviation community mourns yet another devastating loss.
