Ludhiana (Punjab), January 11: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Gogi tragically passed away after accidentally shooting himself, sustaining a fatal head injury. The incident occurred around midnight, and Gogi was declared dead upon arrival at DMC Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja, addressing the media, stated, “As per the family members, he shot himself accidentally and sustained bullet injuries to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital. His body has been kept in the mortuary at DMC Hospital.”
The DCP further clarified that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination. “The cause of death will be clear once the post-mortem reports come,” he added.
Details of the Incident
According to officials, the incident took place around midnight. Despite immediate medical attention, the MLA could not be revived. “He was declared dead when he was brought to DMC Hospital,” DCP Teja said.
Political Career
Gogi, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022, rose to prominence after defeating two-time Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Ludhiana assembly elections. He was known for his dedication to public service and commitment to his constituents.
