Abhishek Bachchan Fights Back at Troll Who Claimed He Buys Awards and Aggressively Pushes PR
Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan, known for his affable demeanor, was recently provoked into a rare public response after an X (formerly Twitter) user launched a scathing attack, accusing him of using money and publicity to sustain his career.
The controversy erupted following Bachchan’s recent win of the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his compelling performance in the film, I Want to Talk.
The Accusation: ‘Buying Awards and Aggressive PR’
A user on the platform X posted an image of Abhishek Bachchan accepting his Filmfare award, accompanied by a harsh critique of the actor’s professional journey. The post was pointedly titled, “As much as he’s an affable guy, I hate to say that professionally #AbhishekBachchan is the prime example of how buying awards and aggressive PR pushes can keep you relevant… even if you don’t have a single SOLO blockbuster in your career.”
The user then specifically targeted his recent win for I Want to Talk, sarcastically calling it “hilarious” that the actor won an award for a film the user claimed “no one saw apart from paid reviewers.” The post concluded by stating that “far better actors” deserved the prestigious recognition.
Bachchan’s Direct Response: ‘Just Hard Work, Blood, Sweat and Tears’
Choosing not to ignore the public swipe, Abhishek Bachchan responded directly to the user to decisively set the record straight.
In a tweet that quickly went viral, the actor staunchly denied the allegations of professional dishonesty: “Just to set the record straight. Never has any award been bought or aggressive PR been done by me. Just hard work, blood, sweat and tears.”
While acknowledging the futility of trying to convince a critic, he added a powerful pledge to silence future doubts. “But, doubt you’ll believe anything I say or write,” he continued, concluding with a promise to his detractor: “So…. Best way to shut you up is by working even harder so that you don’t ever doubt any achievement that will happen in the future, again. I will prove you wrong! With all due respect and ‘affability’.”
Fans Rally to Defend the Actor
The actor’s forthright reply immediately drew a wave of support from his fan base, who jumped in to defend his artistic merit and award win.
One supporter wrote, “For a lot of folks, box-office collection is the main driver. But people who understand real art know that it is not the only parameter to judge an artist.” Another user, having clearly seen the winning film, commented, “Whoever saw that movie will have not even a pinch of hesitation or concern seeing you win that award.” Beyond defending the win, many fans used the thread to list their personal favorite performances by the actor.
