After Return, Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King & Crew Share Experience on Historic Blue Origin Spaceflight

After a safe return from space, Blue Origin’s first all-women crew—including Katy Perry and Gayle King—shared emotional reactions, reflections on unity, and dreams of inspiring future generations.

After journeying 62 miles above Earth, the pioneering Blue Origin NS-31 mission returned safely with its all-female astronaut crew, and their reactions have been nothing short of extraordinary.

The six women—Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn—made history as the first all-women spaceflight team since Valentina Tereshkova’s 1963 solo mission. The suborbital flight, which lasted around four minutes in space, reached the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of outer space.

Upon landing, Katy Perry and Gayle King kissed the Earth, overwhelmed with gratitude. Lauren Sánchez, engaged to Amazon founder and Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos, joked, “I had to come back—we’re getting married!” she laughed at the West Texas launch site.

For Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist, the mission marked a lifelong dream come true. “We all just looked at each other up there. There was a very special moment between us. It’s beautiful,” she recalled, describing a powerful shared energy in zero gravity.

Gayle King, who famously fears flying, admitted she had no regrets: “Looking down at Earth made me realize—we really need to do better. It’s so quiet, it makes you reflect.”

Katy Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” on their descent, a decision she said came from her “higher self.” The Firework singer also carried a real daisy in her suit as a tribute to her daughter Daisy Dove. “Daisies grow anywhere—they’re a symbol of resilience and Earth’s beauty,” she said.

Kerianne Flynn, a film producer and mother, shared that her son doubted moms could go to space. “Now, he knows they absolutely can,” she said proudly.

The crew’s launch was cheered on by friends and family, including Oprah Winfrey, who supported best friend Gayle King alongside her children. Jeff Bezos himself gave the women a heartfelt sendoff, saying, “I love all of you. Godspeed.”

The crew’s goal was not only to touch space, but to expand the idea of who belongs there.

“These women are all storytellers,” Sánchez told Elle earlier this month. “And now, they’ll share this story of space with the world.”
