Air India Mumbai-New York Flight Returns Mid-Air After Security Threat
March 10, 2025: An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York (AI-119) was forced to return mid-air after a potential security threat was detected onboard. The Boeing 777 aircraft, which was flying over Azerbaijan, changed course and landed safely back in Mumbai at 10:25 AM on Monday.
Following the emergency landing, bomb detection squads were deployed to conduct thorough security checks. However, sources suggest that the threat may have been a hoax.

Air India confirmed that the decision to air-return to Mumbai was made in the interest of passenger and crew safety.
“After following necessary protocols, AI-119 returned to Mumbai. The aircraft is undergoing mandatory security checks, and Air India is fully cooperating with the authorities,” a spokesperson said.
To minimize passenger inconvenience, hotel accommodations, meals, and other support have been provided to all affected travelers.
The aviation security team will continue investigating the nature of the threat, and authorities will determine whether it was a false alarm or required further security action.
Air India reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, stating that all necessary precautions were taken in response to the alert.
