Alert!! Global Data Breach Exposes 16 Billion Login Credentials; Apple, Google, Among Targets

Researchers uncover largest-ever breach with weaponisable data, exposing users and services to mass-scale exploitation threats

June 20, 2025: In one of the largest cybersecurity breaches in history, researchers have confirmed that over 16 billion login credentials, including usernames and passwords, have been exposed in an unprecedented leak threatening a wide range of services — from Apple, Google, Facebook, and Telegram to GitHub and government systems.

The breach involves 30 datasets, each containing tens of millions to over 3.5 billion unique records, many of which are new and highly exploitable, rather than recycled data from past leaks. The breach has been traced back to early 2025, with datasets surfacing steadily since then.

“This is not just a leak – it’s a blueprint for mass exploitation,” warned cybersecurity experts. “The scale and freshness of this data make it a clear threat for phishing, business email compromise (BEC), and account takeovers.”

The breach was first hinted at when a “mysterious database” of 184 million records was found unprotected on a server. That, as it turns out, was merely the tip of the iceberg.

🔐 High-Value Targets and Global Implications

The stolen data contains credentials for:

  • Social Media (Facebook, Telegram)
  • Corporate and Developer Tools (GitHub, Slack)
  • VPNs and email accounts
  • Government and banking services

“Credential leaks of this magnitude can enable widespread phishing, ransomware deployment, and identity theft,” said Darren Guccione, CEO of Keeper Security.

Amid rising security threats, Google has once again urged users to abandon traditional passwords and 2FA. The tech giant advocates for Passkeys and social sign-ins that rely on biometrics like fingerprint scans and facial recognition.

“Passkeys are phishing-resistant and reduce reliance on passwords by letting users log in through their smartphones or trusted devices,” Google said in a blog post.

The breach also reignites the discussion around zero-trust architecture, multi-factor authentication alternatives, and secure-by-default design for consumer and enterprise tech.
