Alia's Jigra Opens with Slower-than-Expected Start, Eyes Dussehra Boost
October 12, 2024: Vasan Bala’s directorial Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, has had a slower-than-expected start at the Indian box office. Early estimates suggest that the film’s first-day earnings range between ₹4.75 to ₹5.25 crore, falling short of even conservative predictions, which estimated the opening in the range of ₹6 to ₹6.50 crores.
Considering Alia Bhatt’s stardom, Jigra was anticipated to open at around ₹10 crore. However, the subdued and indie-style tone of the teaser and trailer seems to have alienated a portion of the mass audience. In an industry heavily skewed towards commercial action-driven films, Jigra appears to have struggled to attract a wider crowd.
The film may see some improvement over the Dussehra holiday on Saturday, followed by a potential dip on Sunday. The opening weekend is expected to conclude with a total collection of around ₹23 to ₹25 crores. However, the true test will be how it performs on Monday, especially given the mixed word-of-mouth reviews from its first-day audience.
After Jigra, Alia Bhatt will be seen in Alpha, a film that is part of the YRF Spy Universe. Fans and industry insiders are hopeful that this action-packed movie will perform better at the box office and do justice to her star power.
