Ahead of the high-stakes Assam Assembly Elections 2026, political rhetoric has intensified with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launching a sharp attack on Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi, referring to them as “Pappu” and “chhota Pappu”.


Sarma Dismisses Arrest Threat

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s remark that he could face arrest if Congress comes to power, Sarma said such a scenario is impossible in this lifetime.

He stated that even leaders like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi would have to be “reborn” to see him being arrested, asserting confidence in his position.


Rahul Gandhi’s Corruption Allegations

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had accused Sarma of being “the most corrupt Chief Minister” and alleged that the Assam government was being run like a “land ATM”.

He also claimed that strict legal action would be taken if Congress returns to power, adding that “no one can escape accountability”.


Congress Hits Back

Congress leader Pawan Khera responded strongly to Sarma’s remarks, warning that no one is above the law.

In a post, he suggested that those in power today could face consequences in the future, signaling an escalation in political tensions.


High-Stakes Election Ahead

The Assam Assembly Elections 2026 will be held on April 9 for all 126 seats, with results scheduled on May 4. The contest is primarily between the BJP-led NDA government and the Congress, making it a crucial political battle in the state.
