Aus Vs Eng : Australia Beat England By 28-runs in the first T20I
Australia claimed a 28-run victory over England in the first T20I in Southampton, driven by an explosive opening partnership and a solid bowling display.
Travis Head’s rapid 59 from 23 balls, alongside Matthew Short’s 41 from 26, powered Australia to 179 in 19.3 overs, with the pair combining for an 86-run opening stand. Short, back in the squad after paternity leave, impressed as a potential long-term opener.
However, after their strong start, Australia’s batting faltered. Leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone (who took 3/22) slowed the run rate, leading to a collapse where Australia lost eight wickets for just 61 runs after being 118/2 at one stage. Despite this, Josh Inglis chipped in with 37 to push Australia to a defendable total.
England’s chase never gained momentum, as they stumbled to 52/4, with key contributions from Australia’s bowlers. Sean Abbott took 3/28, while Adam Zampa’s tight 2/20 kept England in check. Josh Hazlewood, returning from injury, claimed 2/32 and restricted England’s top order. Despite a 54-run stand between Liam Livingstone (37) and Sam Curran, England was bowled out for 151 in 19.2 overs.
This comprehensive win gives Australia a strong start in the series, with the second T20I scheduled for Friday.
