Australia set a world record for the most runs in a T20I powerplay during their 7-wicket win over Scotland in the first T20I. They smashed 113 runs in the powerplay, breaking South Africa’s previous record of 102/0 against the West Indies in 2023.
The carnage at the Grange Cricket Club was led by opener Travis Head, who hammered a blistering 80 off 25 balls, including five sixes and 12 boundaries. Head’s explosive innings, combined with Mitchell Marsh’s 30-run over off Jack Jarvis, left Scotland helpless.
Despite losing Jake Fraser-McGurk for a duck early on, Head and Marsh’s aggressive strokeplay ensured that Australia chased down Scotland’s target of 155 with ease, wrapping up the match in 9.4 overs. Josh Inglis contributed a quick-fire 27* off 13 to finish the game with more than ten overs to spare. Earlier, Scotland posted 154/9, but their effort was overshadowed by Australia’s record-breaking blitz.
