Ayodhya Ram Temple Urges Local Devotees to Postpone Visits Amid Maha Kumbh Rush

Temple management issues advisory as unprecedented crowds from Maha Kumbh converge; Uttar Pradesh tightens security ahead of Mauni Amavasya’s ‘Amrit Snan.’

January 28, 2025: NEW DELHI:
The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple committee in Ayodhya has urged local devotees to defer their visits for 15-20 days, citing an overwhelming influx of pilgrims traveling from the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The advisory comes as the temple struggles to accommodate the growing crowds ahead of the auspicious ‘Amrit Snan’ on Mauni Amavasya.

The temple management highlighted that the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which began on January 13, has significantly contributed to the increase in visitors. With the main bathing ritual scheduled for January 29, the event is expected to attract nearly 10 crore pilgrims in a single day. Many devotees traveling to Prayagraj are making additional stops in Ayodhya, further straining local infrastructure.

Challenges in Ayodhya
“In the past three days, the number of devotees arriving in Ayodhya has surged to unprecedented levels,” the temple committee stated. “Given the population and limited size of Ayodhya Dham, it is becoming increasingly difficult to facilitate darshan of Prabhu Shri Ram Lalla for everyone in a single day. This is causing significant inconvenience, including longer walking distances for pilgrims.”

The committee has requested local devotees to delay their visits, prioritizing those who have traveled long distances for the holy darshan. “We humbly appeal to devotees from nearby areas to plan their visits 15-20 days later. This will allow outstation pilgrims a smoother darshan experience during this period of high footfall,” the advisory read.

Enhanced Security for Mauni Amavasya
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has ramped up security measures as it prepares for Mauni Amavasya’s ‘Amrit Snan,’ one of the most significant bathing rituals of the Maha Kumbh. The state expects around 10 crore pilgrims to participate on Wednesday alone.

The Maha Kumbh 2025 has already seen over 15 crore pilgrims take a holy dip in the Yamuna and Ganga rivers in just 17 days, with a projected total footfall of 40-45 crore by February 26.

This massive influx has necessitated enhanced arrangements, including security checkpoints, crowd control measures, and extended infrastructure to ensure a safe and fulfilling experience for devotees.

About the Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh, held every 12 years, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The event combines spiritual significance with a cultural spectacle, attracting millions from across the globe. The Uttar Pradesh government is pulling out all stops to ensure its success, investing in logistics, sanitation, and technology to manage the unprecedented scale.
