Baloch Activists Decry ‘Genocide’ as Two More Youths Forcibly Disappeared

Baloch Yakjehti Committee raises alarm over rising enforced disappearances in Balochistan, as human rights groups demand accountability from Pakistani authorities.

Baloch Rights Group Calls for End to ‘Genocide’ After Two More Youths Go Missing

Balochistan [Pakistan], March 7The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has once again raised alarm over enforced disappearances in Balochistan, sharing details of two Baloch youths abducted in recent days.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BYC reported that:

  • Qurash Ahmed, a 22-year-old laborer, was forcibly disappeared from Kech, Balochistan.
  • Sajjad, a law student, was abducted from Islamabad.

The organization condemned these actions, calling for an immediate halt to what they describe as “Baloch genocide.”

“The systematic targeting and disappearance of Baloch youth must end. These abductions are part of a larger pattern of oppression,” BYC stated.

A Worsening Human Rights Crisis in Balochistan

Enforced disappearances in Balochistan have long been a critical human rights issue, with numerous individuals—including activists, journalists, and political figures—vanishing without explanation.

The Pakistani military and intelligence agencies have been widely accused of carrying out these disappearances, particularly against those involved in the Baloch nationalist movement, which demands greater autonomy and rights for the region.

  • The Balochistan Post recently reported another case of forced disappearance:
    • Saeed Baloch, a security guard at a law college in Turbat, was reportedly detained by Pakistani forces before going missing.
    • Eyewitnesses claim he was taken from western Turbat, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Families Face Unending Struggles for Justice

For the families of the disappeared, the struggle for justice is long and painful, as the government often denies involvement, further fueling fears of repression and violence.

  • Domestic and international human rights groups have repeatedly condemned Pakistan for its failure to address enforced disappearances.
  • Despite global criticism, the trend of abductions continues unabated, leaving families in anguish and activists under constant threat.

With more voices calling for accountability, will the Pakistani state respond to mounting pressure, or will the cycle of disappearances continue unchecked?
