May 12, 2025: A significant new voice in the fight for human rights has emerged with the launch of the Baloch Advocacy and Studies Centre (BASC) in London. Established as an independent and non-partisan organisation, BASC aims to spotlight the systemic oppression of the Baloch people in both Iran and Pakistan—one of the region’s most marginalised and underrepresented communities.
In a statement marking its launch, a BASC spokesperson emphasized the organisation’s mission: “The Baloch remain among the most systematically oppressed and least internationally acknowledged peoples in the region. Through research, outreach, and global partnerships, we aim to ensure their voices are not only heard but lead to meaningful change.”
Founded by a coalition of veteran human rights activists, researchers, and writers, BASC is built around the principles of dignity, justice, and self-determination for the Baloch people. The Centre’s leadership brings a wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to the cause.
Leading the organisation is Fariba Baloch as President, with Hassan Kosa serving as Vice-President. The operational leadership includes Qambar Malik as General Secretary and Abdollah Aref as Deputy General Secretary. The research division is headed by Khurshid Ahmed, Director of Research, supported by Research Associates Aisha Baloch and Abdol Ghayoum Bijad. Mohsin Burhanzahi serves as Director of Media and Communications, while Yasir Baloch fulfills the role of Technical Officer.
BASC is committed to rigorous, evidence-based documentation of human rights violations. Using advanced data verification tools and globally accepted research standards, the Centre plans to compile comprehensive reports that will be shared with international human rights bodies, governments, and policy influencers to press for accountability and reform.
Beyond research and reporting, BASC has a strong focus on empowering the Baloch diaspora, many of whom have escaped persecution but still face systemic barriers in exile. Through training, resources, and advocacy platforms, BASC aims to strengthen their role in the global human rights dialogue.
“We believe it’s time the world heard the voices of the Baloch,” the spokesperson said. “BASC will ensure these voices are not silenced but become a force for justice, reform, and recognition.”
The Centre’s first major human rights report is expected later this year, marking a critical milestone in its mission to bring international attention to the Baloch cause.
