Bangladesh Calls for Calm as India-Pakistan Tensions Rise After Operation Sindoor
May 7, 2025: In the wake of Operation Sindoor—a high-precision Indian military strike targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)—Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and is closely monitoring the evolving situation between its two neighbors. The South Asian nation has called for restraint and stressed the need for diplomatic engagement to ease escalating tensions.
In an official statement released by its Foreign Ministry, Bangladesh said, “The Government of Bangladesh is closely observing the evolving situation in India and Pakistan. Bangladesh expresses its deep concern over the situation and urges both countries to remain calm, show restraint, and refrain from taking any steps that could further aggravate the situation.”
The statement further emphasized the importance of peace in the region: “In the spirit of regional peace, prosperity and stability, Bangladesh remains hopeful that tensions will be defused through diplomatic endeavours, and that peace will ultimately prevail for the benefit of the peoples in the region.”
India’s Operation Sindoor was launched in direct response to the brutal April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where militants targeted civilians with extreme cruelty. The coordinated military strikes were carried out early Wednesday by the Indian Armed Forces, targeting nine terrorist camps located deep within Pakistan and PoK.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed the success of the mission, stating, “Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to deliver justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families. Nine terrorist camps were targeted and successfully destroyed. The locations were selected to avoid civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.”
Col Sofiya Qureshi, during a press briefing, shared visual evidence of the strikes and revealed that key terror hubs—such as Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya—were among the locations hit. Notably, the Muridke facility was where the 2008 Mumbai attack perpetrators, including David Headley and Ajmal Kasab, received training.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also addressed the intent behind the Pahalgam attack. “The attack was clearly driven by the objective of undermining the return of normalcy to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. “Victims were executed at close range in front of their families, in a manner designed to instill fear and trauma.”
As regional tensions mount, Bangladesh’s appeal for restraint underscores the broader implications of the conflict and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to preserve peace and stability in South Asia.
