BAPS Hindu Temple in California Vandalized Ahead of ‘Khalistan Referendum’

The Hindu community condemns the attack, pledging to stand against hate and uphold peace.

California [US], March 9: In a distressing act of vandalism, the BAPS Hindu Temple in Chino Hills, California, was defaced with hateful messages just days ahead of the controversial ‘Khalistan referendum’ event in Los Angeles.

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, was highlighted by BAPS Public Affairs USA on social media, reaffirming their commitment to peace and resilience against rising acts of religious intolerance.

“We Will Never Let Hate Take Root” – BAPS Stands Strong

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), BAPS Public Affairs condemned the attack and reassured the community of their resolve to stand against hate.

“In the face of another Mandir desecration, this time in Chino Hills, CA, the Hindu community stands steadfast against hate. Together with the community in Chino Hills and Southern California, we will never let hate take root. Our common humanity and faith will ensure that peace and compassion prevail.”

A Disturbing Pattern of Temple Attacks

The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) also reacted to the desecration, linking it to a pattern of anti-Hindu hate crimes in recent years.

“Another Hindu Temple vandalized – this time the iconic BAPS temple in Chino Hills, CA. It’s just another day in a world where media and academics will insist there is no anti-Hindu hate and that #Hinduphobia is just a construct of our imagination. Not surprising this happens as the day for a so-called ‘Khalistan referendum’ in LA draws close.”

CoHNA also called for a full investigation into the attack, citing similar temple desecrations in Sacramento and New York last year, where phrases like “Hindus go back” were scrawled on temple walls.

Growing Concerns Over Religious Intolerance

The Hindu community in North America has voiced increasing concerns over rising Hinduphobia and attacks on places of worship. Advocacy groups have demanded stronger law enforcement action and strict penalties for hate crimes targeting religious minorities.

Despite such incidents, the BAPS Hindu community remains unwavering in its message of peace, unity, and compassion, standing firm against acts of hate and division.
