BCCI to Decide Jasprit Bumrah’s Champions Trophy 2025 Availability on February 11

Star pacer’s back scan results to determine participation in marquee ICC event

New Delhi, February 11: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to take a final call on Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 11 (Tuesday), as per a report by ESPNcricinfo.

The star Indian pacer recently underwent a back scan at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to assess his recovery following a medical advisory. His fitness status will be evaluated in a meeting between BCCI’s medical staff and the national selectors.

Bumrah’s Injury Concerns Ahead of Champions Trophy

Bumrah sustained his back issue during the Perth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. In the final innings of the Sydney Test, he did not bowl a single ball and was immediately sent for scans. Australian doctors advised him against playing the remainder of the match, leading to BCCI’s decision to rest him for at least five weeks before undergoing another scan.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, the Men in Blue are keen to have their spearhead pacer fully fit, as his presence could be crucial for India’s campaign in the ICC event.

Bumrah’s Stellar 2023 in International Cricket

Despite his recent injury concerns, Bumrah was the leading wicket-taker in international cricket in 2023, finishing the year with 86 wickets in 21 matches at an astonishing average of 13.76. His stats included:

  • Four four-wicket hauls
  • Five five-wicket hauls
  • Best figures of 6/45

In Test cricket, Bumrah delivered one of the finest performances in a calendar year, scalping 71 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 14.92, with five five-wicket hauls. His dominant displays in both home and away conditions solidified his position as India’s most lethal fast bowler.

India’s Schedule for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The eight-team tournament, featuring 15 matches, will be played across Pakistan and Dubai under a hybrid model from February 19 to March 9. India will play its matches in Dubai due to political tensions with Pakistan.

India’s Champions Trophy 2025 fixtures:

  • February 20 – India vs Bangladesh
  • February 23 – India vs Pakistan (Marquee Clash)
  • March 2 – India vs New Zealand

With a high-profile India-Pakistan showdown on February 23, Bumrah’s availability could play a pivotal role in India’s title aspirations.

BCCI’s decision on February 11 will be critical in shaping Team India’s bowling attack for the prestigious ICC event.
