Biden Reflects on Ukraine Strategy: “We Achieved Our Goals and Strengthened America”

US President highlights global unity for Ukraine, NATO advancements, and a foundation for continued support

Washington DC [US], January 14: US President Joe Biden on Monday outlined his administration’s accomplishments in responding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, emphasizing the successful achievement of two primary objectives: rallying global support for Ukraine and avoiding direct conflict between nuclear powers.

Delivering a foreign policy address, Biden also stated that his administration has laid the groundwork for the incoming Trump administration to sustain support for Ukraine and ensure a brighter future for its people.

“When Putin launched his invasion, I had two jobs: to rally the world to defend Ukraine and avoid war between two nuclear powers,” Biden said. “We did both… And we’ve laid the foundation for the next administration to preserve a bright future for the Ukrainian people.”

“America is Stronger” Under Biden Leadership

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Biden stated, “Since Kamala (Harris) and I took office, our nation has become stronger at home and in the world. America today is more capable and prepared than we have been for a long time.”

Biden noted that global alliances, particularly NATO, have seen remarkable growth and unity. He underscored that prior to his administration, only nine NATO allies met the 2 per cent GDP defense spending target. This number has now increased to 23 allies.

“Our alliances are stronger than they’ve been in decades, and NATO is bigger and more capable than ever,” Biden said.

A Stronger NATO and Global Alliances

Biden also credited his administration with bolstering the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), ensuring it is more robust and prepared to counter global threats.

“Before I took office, 9 of our NATO allies were spending 2 per cent of GDP on defense,” Biden remarked. “Now, 23 are. NATO is bigger and more capable than ever.”

As Biden prepares to leave office, his remarks signal confidence in the progress made under his administration, particularly in rallying international support for Ukraine and strengthening America’s global alliances.
