“Biden’s War, Not Mine”: Trump Blames 2020 Election and Biden for Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Former US President Donald Trump reignites claims of election fraud, criticizes Biden and Zelenskyy for Ukraine war, calls Russia’s missile strike on Sumy “a mistake”

Washington [US], April 14: Former US President Donald Trump has reignited his controversial stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, blaming President Joe Biden for the ongoing conflict and claiming the war would never have happened had the 2020 US election not been “rigged.”

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump wrote:

“The war between Russia and Ukraine is Biden’s war, not mine. I just got here, and for four years during my term, I had no problem preventing it from happening. President Putin and everyone else respected your President! I had nothing to do with this war, but I am working diligently to get the death and destruction to stop.”

He added that if the 2020 election had been fair, the war would never have occurred:

“If the 2020 Presidential Election was not rigged, and it was, in so many ways, that horrible war would never have happened.”

Criticism of Biden and Zelenskyy

Trump further accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Biden of failing to prevent the war.

“President Zelenskyy and Crooked Joe Biden did an absolutely horrible job in allowing this travesty to begin. There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting. But that is the past. Now we have to get it to stop—and fast.”

This is not the first time Trump has claimed superior diplomacy with Russia. In a March statement, he said:

“Under President Bush, Russia got Georgia. Under President Obama, they got a nice big submarine base… Under President Trump, they got nothing, and under President Biden, they tried to get the whole thing—Ukraine.”

He continued, “We have to make a deal because a lot of people are being killed who shouldn’t be. But remember, Trump gave them nothing, and the other presidents gave them a lot. They gave him everything.”

Reaction to Sumy Missile Strike

Commenting on Russia’s deadly missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy on Sunday, which killed at least 34 people and injured over 100, Trump called it a “terrible mistake.”

“I think it was terrible. And I was told they made a mistake. But I think it’s a horrible thing,” he said, while members of his team offered stronger condemnation of the Kremlin’s actions.

The strike on Sumy has drawn international outrage and comes at a time when the White House is actively seeking a ceasefire amid growing civilian casualties.

As Trump positions himself for a possible return to the presidency in 2024, his comments once again underscore the divide in American foreign policy approaches toward Russia and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
