With Republican unity on display, Donald Trump expresses confidence in House approval of his sweeping tax and spending cuts bill, despite concerns over Medicaid and ballooning deficits.
Washington, July 3, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared that the Republican-controlled House of Representatives is “united” and ready to pass his ambitious tax and spending bill, dubbed the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, hailing it as the “Biggest Tax Cuts in History.”
Following a narrow Senate victory by a single vote on Tuesday, the bill now returns to the House for final approval, with GOP leadership rushing toward a vote to meet Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline.
“It looks like the House is ready to vote tonight. We had GREAT conversations all day, and the Republican House Majority is UNITED, for the Good of our Country, delivering the Biggest Tax Cuts in History and MASSIVE Growth. Let’s go, Republicans, and everyone else — MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The bill’s momentum is now bolstered by behind-the-scenes negotiations, including a key meeting with the conservative Freedom Caucus at the White House, attended by Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
GOP Lawmakers Weigh In
Representative Tim Burchett, a Republican who was initially sceptical, confirmed the meeting lasted nearly two hours. He revealed that the President personally addressed lawmakers’ concerns, particularly over Medicaid provisions, and followed up with phone calls to shore up wavering support.
“He answered a lot of my questions… I’m leaning in favour of the course,” said Burchett, though he added he was not fully convinced yet.
What’s in the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’?
Initially passed by the House in May and narrowly cleared in the Senate this week, the legislation includes:

- $4.5 trillion to extend tax cuts introduced during Trump’s first term.
- Increased military spending, fulfilling a core campaign pledge.
- Mass deportation funding, tied to Trump’s immigration crackdown.
- Deep cuts to Medicaid, marking the largest reduction to the healthcare program since its inception in the 1960s.
While Republicans tout the bill as a vehicle for growth and national security, critics warn it could add $3.4 trillion to the U.S. deficit over the next decade, sparking pushback from fiscal conservatives and Democrats alike.
Final Hurdle Ahead
If passed, the House vote would finalize one of the most consequential legislative pushes of Trump’s second term. The outcome could reshape U.S. tax and welfare policy for years and reignite debates over entitlement reform, economic inequality, and federal deficits.
With the July 4 deadline looming, all eyes are on the House floor as Trump stakes his political capital on delivering what he calls a “big, beautiful win for the American people.”
