December 29, 2024: A tense situation unfolded at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada when an Air Canada Express flight, operated by PAL Airlines, experienced a landing gear failure, leading to a partial fire on the aircraft. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM local time, as the plane arrived from Newfoundland.

Passengers described the harrowing moment, with one sharing, “The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left, and we heard what almost sounded like a crash sound as the wing of the plane began skidding along the pavement.”

The plane, which reportedly had around 80 passengers on board, was quickly met by emergency response teams, including paramedics and Nova Scotia RCMP. Thankfully, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, and they were taken to a nearby hangar for medical assessment.

The cause of the landing gear failure remains under investigation. Authorities are examining whether the issue stemmed from mechanical failure, procedural oversight, or external factors.
This incident coincided with a devastating aviation disaster in South Korea, where a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok to Muan carrying 181 passengers crashed during landing. The tragedy resulted in 179 fatalities, with visuals showing the aircraft engulfed in flames shortly after the crash.
These back-to-back incidents have sparked renewed discussions about aviation safety protocols and the need for rigorous inspections to prevent such tragedies.
