BJP Unveils Second Manifesto for Delhi Polls, Promises Free Education and Welfare Schemes

Sankalp Patra Part 2 focuses on free education, welfare for marginalized groups, anti-corruption measures, and financial aid for competitive exam aspirants.

New Delhi [India], January 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled the second installment of its manifesto, Sankalp Patra Part 2, for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5. BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched the document in the presence of senior party leaders from Delhi.

The manifesto highlights a range of promises, including free education for students in government institutions, welfare initiatives for auto-rickshaw drivers and domestic workers, and the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged corruption during the AAP government’s tenure.

Key Promises from the BJP Manifesto

  • Free Education and Youth Support:
BJP pledged to provide free education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels for needy students enrolled in government institutions. Additionally, the party promised one-time financial assistance of ₹15,000 for aspirants preparing for competitive exams, along with reimbursement for two-time travel and application fees.
  • Support for Marginalized Students:
The manifesto includes a ₹1,000 monthly stipend for Scheduled Caste students pursuing technical and professional courses under the ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stipend Scheme.’
  • Welfare for Street Vendors:
BJP plans to double the beneficiaries of the PM Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme in Delhi, offering collateral-free loans to street vendors.
  • Anti-Corruption Measures:
The party reiterated its “zero tolerance” policy against corruption, highlighting the Modi government’s success in eliminating middlemen through Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT).
  • Women-Centric Welfare Schemes:
The first installment of Sankalp Patra included initiatives for women, such as nutritional kits and ₹21,000 in financial aid under the Matritva Suraksha Yojana for pregnant women, and a monthly allowance of ₹2,500 under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.

Allegations Against AAP

Anurag Thakur accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of providing shelter to Rohingya Muslims and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Delhi, alleging that this was done under the directions of AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena.

Polling Details

The Delhi Assembly elections will see 70 seats up for grabs on February 5, with votes to be counted on February 8.

Context and Competition

The BJP has sharpened its focus on addressing corruption, boosting welfare schemes, and improving healthcare. With the AAP having dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats respectively, the BJP aims to improve its performance after securing only three and eight seats in those elections.
