Bruno Fernandes Questions Manchester United Players “Why Can’t We Do This Every Week?” After Liverpool Draw

January 6, 2025: In his post-match comments, Bruno Fernandes expressed a mix of emotions after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. The performance, despite not securing a win, was seen as an encouraging sign for the club, especially given their recent struggles under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Fernandes acknowledged that while the result was “good” in the sense that they took a point from the Premier League leaders, it was also “fair,” considering how the game unfolded. However, he was clearly frustrated that Manchester United did not capitalize on the momentum they had in the latter stages of the match.

“I’m pretty upset because if we show this today at Anfield against Liverpool, who are first in the league and probably the outstanding team in the Premier League this season, why can’t we do this every week?” Fernandes said, lamenting the inconsistency that has plagued the team this season.

The game itself was dramatic, with plenty of twists and turns. Lisandro Martinez gave United a shock lead, but Liverpool quickly equalized through Cody Gakpo. Then, a controversial penalty saw Mohamed Salah put Liverpool 2-1 up, capitalizing on a handball by Matthijs de Ligt. However, United responded resiliently. Amad Diallo, after a fantastic cross from Alejandro Garnacho, scored the equalizer, ensuring a hard-earned point for the visitors.

Fernandes, reflecting on the draw, also highlighted the importance of consistency. Despite being in 13th place with just 23 points, the performance against Liverpool showed what the team could achieve when they put in a full effort. However, the midfielder stressed that United needed to deliver that level of performance regularly if they were to achieve their goals for the season and climb out of their current position.

Looking ahead, Manchester United will be hoping to build on this performance when they host Southampton next week, aiming for a much-needed win as they continue to navigate a turbulent campaign.
