Bumrah, Akash Deep Extends dominance Over Bangladesh, India lead By 308 Runs In 1st Test (Day 2, Stumps)
On Day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai, India maintained a firm grip on the match, extending their lead to 308 runs at stumps.
The Indian pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, helped bundle out Bangladesh for just 149 in their first innings.
India’s First Innings: Resuming at 339/6, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja added just a few more runs to their brilliant 199-run partnership before Jadeja was dismissed for 86. Ashwin, however, reached his century, scoring 113 off 133 balls before falling as the ninth wicket. India was bowled out for 376, with Hasan Mahmud claiming a five-wicket haul, the first Bangladeshi to achieve this feat in India.
In response, Bangladesh’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with Bumrah taking 4/50 and Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja both picking up two wickets each.
Shakib Al Hasan top-scored with 32, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten with 27. Despite some resistance from Shakib and Litton Das, Bangladesh was bowled out for 149, trailing India by 227 runs.
India’s Second Innings: With a substantial lead, India faced early troubles in their second innings. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 5, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10, reducing India to 28/2. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill added 39 runs before Kohli was trapped LBW for 17. At stumps, India was 81/3, with Gill unbeaten on 33 and Rishabh Pant on 12.
India’s lead of 308 runs heading into Day 3 puts them in a dominant position, while Bangladesh faces an uphill battle to save the match.
