Can Jannik Sinner Bounce Back? Wimbledon Beckons After French Open Heartbreak!

July 01, 2025: It looked like Jannik Sinner was moments away from clinching his maiden French Open title on June 8. The World No. 1 led Carlos Alcaraz by two sets and even held three match points in the fourth. But in a stunning twist, Alcaraz roared back, handing the 23-year-old Italian a crushing defeat that left him reeling.

Despite this setback, Sinner enters Wimbledon with his top ATP ranking secure, no matter how the Championships unfold. Arriving in London, he shared his optimism: “I am very happy.”

Sinner’s year has already been a roller-coaster. After a brilliant Australian Open win, a potential doping ban cast a shadow over his season. Though he did receive a ban, it was reduced enough to keep him eligible for the Grand Slams.

Coaching Upheaval Before Wimbledon

In a surprise move just before Wimbledon, Sinner parted ways with his fitness trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio — both of whom had previously worked with Novak Djokovic. This decision came right after Sinner’s title defense ended with a loss to Alexander Bublik in Halle.

“Nothing major happened,” Sinner clarified calmly. “It’s not affecting me. I feel ready to compete. I feel free. We reached incredible goals together, but I decided to do something different.”

A Challenging Road Ahead

Sinner’s best Wimbledon result was a semifinal run in 2022, and he’s aiming to go further this year. His projected path to the final is filled with challenges:

  • Round One: Luca Nardi
  • Round Two: Aleksandar Vukic
  • Round Three: Denis Shapovalov
  • Round Four: Tommy Paul or Grigor Dimitrov
  • Quarter-final: Lorenzo Musetti or Ben Shelton
  • Semi-final: Jack Draper or Novak Djokovic
  • Final: Carlos Alcaraz

With nine losses in 2024 — five of them to Alcaraz — Sinner knows the Spaniard could once again be his ultimate hurdle.

Focused and Ready

Confident and determined, Sinner said he’s not dwelling on the past:

“I feel ready to play. What happened in the past is in the past already. Mentally, I feel in a very good spot. I feel like I’m playing great tennis on grass.”

Acknowledging the tricky transition to grass, he added, “I had some time off before coming here. I feel ready to compete again. I’m here to play good tennis.”
