“Can’t Even Say Modi’s Name”: Pakistan MP Calls PM Shehbaz Sharif A ‘Coward’ Amid India Tensions

Tensions boil over in Pakistan’s Parliament as MP Tahir Iqbal blasts Shehbaz Sharif for lacking the courage to confront PM Modi following India’s precision strikes.

May 9, 2025: Islamabad/New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif faced a fresh wave of embarrassment on Friday after a member of his own Parliament publicly labelled him a “coward” for failing to stand up to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid escalating military tensions between the two nations.

The fiery accusation came from Parliamentarian Tahir Iqbal, who emotionally addressed the House, alleging that PM Sharif “can’t even take Modi’s name.” A video of Iqbal’s remarks has gone viral, resonating across both Pakistani and Indian social media platforms, drawing both ridicule and sympathy.

“Pakistan PM is a coward. He can’t even say Narendra Modi’s name,” Iqbal declared, as his voice trembled during an emotional speech that reportedly left him visibly shaken. “I pray that Allah protects Pakistanis,” he added, reflecting the anxiety brewing in the country following India’s retaliatory military operation.

The criticism came just a day after Pakistan attempted a missile and drone attack on Indian military installations—a move widely perceived as a failed escalation after India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.

Iqbal’s statement mirrors growing discontent within Pakistan’s political and civilian circles, where the government’s perceived lack of preparedness and ineffective response has drawn intense scrutiny.

PM Sharif had already faced public mockery earlier this week for appearing “nervous” and “defeated” during a press briefing following India’s cross-border strikes. Social media users across Pakistan questioned his resolve and accused him of capitulating in the face of India’s hardline posture.

On Thursday, another Pakistani MP broke down in Parliament while calling for divine intervention. “May Allah protect our people,” he said, choking on his words—further highlighting the internal panic and helplessness among Pakistan’s leadership.
