Champions Trophy 2025: Despite Hosting Rights, Pakistan Sees Only 50% of Matches Played on Its Soil

Only 50% of Matches Played in Pakistan as Rain & India’s Dubai Fixtures Dominate Schedule

February 28, 2025: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, initially expected to be a grand cricketing spectacle in Pakistan, has faced major setbacks due to relentless rain disruptions and India’s matches being relocated to Dubai. With match number 10 set to be played today (February 28), the tournament has already witnessed two abandoned games due to poor weather, and a third washout is likely.

Out of the total 15 scheduled matches, only 5 have been successfully played in Pakistan’s stadiums, meaning just 50% of the matches have actually taken place in the host nation.

The Numbers So Far

🏏 Total Matches Scheduled: 15
🌧️ Abandoned Due to Rain: 2 (Possibly 3)
🏟️ Matches Played in Dubai: 2 (All India matches)
🇵🇰 Matches Played in Pakistan: 5 (Only 50% of the tournament has seen action in Pakistan)

With Pakistan already eliminated, their home advantage has had little impact on their performance. Meanwhile, India has secured a semi-final spot, ensuring at least one more match in Dubai.

What Lies Ahead?

With 5 matches remaining, including two semi-finals and the final, at least one India match and one semi-final are certain to be played in Dubai. That will increase Dubai’s total match count to 4, raising further questions about the feasibility of hosting major ICC tournaments in Pakistan under such circumstances.

🏏 Upcoming Matches: 5 (including 2 Semis & 1 Final)
📍 Matches Likely to be Played in Dubai: At least 4

With relentless rain, logistical challenges, and Pakistan’s early exit, the tournament has not unfolded as planned, further fueling debates about the future of cricketing events in the region.
