Champions Trophy: “No Injury Concerns for Rohit or Shami”—Shreyas Iyer

Despite injury scares to Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer confirms both players are fine, as India storms into the ICC Champions Trophy semi-finals after a dominant six-wicket win over Pakistan in Dubai.

Dubai [UAE], February 24: After India’s clinical six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer dismissed any concerns over injury scares to captain Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Shami, assuring that both players were comfortable and fit.

The memorable win, highlighted by Virat Kohli’s record-breaking century, Iyer’s composed half-century, and stellar bowling performances from Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya, has all but secured India’s place in the semi-finals.

However, the match had its moments of concern as Shami experienced ankle discomfort and Rohit struggled with his hamstring during Pakistan’s innings.

“Both Are Fine, No Issues”—Iyer Calms Injury Concerns

Mohammed Shami was seen limping in the fifth over of the match, struggling with his ankle. Though he briefly left the field and later resumed bowling, he only completed eight of his 10 overs, conceding 43 runs without taking a wicket.

Meanwhile, Rohit appeared to strain his hamstring while celebrating Babar Azam’s wicket, prompting him to step off the field temporarily, leaving vice-captain Shubman Gill in charge. However, he returned to lead and later opened the batting, scoring 20 off 15 balls.

Speaking about the injury concerns, Shreyas Iyer assured that both players were comfortable and there was nothing to worry about.

“I had a brief chat with them, and both were quite comfortable with the way things progressed. From my knowledge, I do not think there is any issue,” Iyer stated in the post-match press conference.

After the game, Rohit also addressed concerns about his hamstring, stating:

“Hamstring is okay at the moment.”

India’s Clinical Chase Seals Comfortable Victory

Pakistan, after opting to bat first, got off to a steady start, with Babar Azam (23) and Imam-ul-Haq (10) putting up 41 runs for the opening wicket.

A 104-run stand between skipper Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Saud Shakeel (62) helped stabilize their innings, but slow scoring and middle-order collapses meant Pakistan was bundled out for 241 in 49.4 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Hardik Pandya (2/31) were the standout bowlers, while Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing 242, India lost Rohit Sharma early, but a 69-run stand between Shubman Gill (46) and Virat Kohli, followed by a match-winning 114-run partnership between Kohli and Iyer (56 off 67 balls), ensured an easy win.

Kohli’s unbeaten 100 off 111 balls sealed the four-wicket victory with 45 balls to spare, reinforcing his status as India’s ultimate chase master.

India’s Road to the Semi-Finals

With this commanding win, India is now one step away from securing a semi-final berth in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As the team gears up for the knockout stages, fans can breathe easy knowing that both Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami are fit and ready for the next challenge.
