Champions Trophy: Pakistan Fans Meme Fest After Mohammad Rizwan’s as 80 Dot Balls Stall Momentum Against India-Watch

Pakistan Captain Faces Criticism for Slow Scoring in High-Stakes Clash Against India

February 24, 2025: Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan came under heavy fire from fans and cricket pundits after a sluggish start against India in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A clash in Dubai. Pakistan’s batting woes continued as they played 80 dot balls in the first 20 overs, leaving supporters frustrated and social media flooded with memes and criticism.

Slow Start Hurts Pakistan’s Momentum

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan initially showed more intent than in their previous game against New Zealand, where they had managed just 22 runs in the first 10 overs. Against India, they reached 52/2 in 10 overs, but momentum was lost soon after Babar Azam’s dismissal in the ninth over.

Rizwan, who came to the crease after Imam-ul-Haq’s run-out, struggled to rotate the strike. The scoring rate plummeted, with Pakistan managing only 27 runs between the 10th and 20th over, frustrating fans who expected a more aggressive approach. At the 20-over mark, Rizwan had crawled to 13 off 34 balls, leaving Pakistan in a precarious position.

Fans Vent Frustration on Social Media

Cricket fans took to social media to express their discontent with Pakistan’s ultra-defensive approach. Many pointed out that the team had failed to capitalize on a relatively steady start, with memes and sarcastic comments dominating discussions on X (formerly Twitter).

“80 dots in 120 balls! We have simply wasted 2/3rd of the balls. This is beyond embarrassing! Players and management should be ashamed of themselves,” one fan wrote.

“80 dot balls. This country’s cricket culture is stuck in the stone age,” another commented.

“80 dots in your first 120 balls. Wild, wild lack of urgency,” a fan tweeted in disbelief.

Pakistan’s Semi-Final Hopes Hang by a Thread

After a heavy loss to New Zealand, Pakistan needed a win against India to stay alive in the tournament. However, their slow approach and eventual defeat have now put them on the brink of elimination. With one match remaining against Bangladesh, they must win convincingly and hope for favorable results to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

What’s Next for Pakistan?

Pakistan’s fate in the Champions Trophy 2025 depends on the result of the Bangladesh vs New Zealand game. If New Zealand wins, Pakistan will be eliminated. However, if Bangladesh pulls off an upset, Pakistan could still have a mathematical chance to qualify based on Net Run Rate (NRR).

With fans demanding accountability, Rizwan and the team management will need to rethink their batting approach in crucial games. Will Pakistan bounce back or is their Champions Trophy campaign all but over?
