Chaos in Delhi: Man Detained After Attacking Kejriwal with Acid During Padyatra, AAP, BJP Trade Accusations

November 30, 2024: Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convener, Arvind Kejriwal, faced a public attack during his padyatra in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Saturday. The incident occurred when a man, identified as Ashok Jha, threw a liquid on Kejriwal. The accused was immediately detained by security personnel, who managed to apprehend him amidst the commotion.

Visuals from the event show Kejriwal assessing the situation while his supporters and security personnel restrained the attacker. The incident has sparked a heated political exchange, with AAP alleging a collapse of law and order under the central government.

Political Reactions

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP of orchestrating the attack, stating, “Law and order in Delhi has completely collapsed, and the central government and the Home Minister are doing nothing about it.”

The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations, with spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor calling the incident a “political stunt.” Kapoor suggested that Kejriwal has a history of using such incidents for political gains ahead of elections. “Arvind Kejriwal’s every political strategy has failed. Now, he’s resorting to his old tricks. The BJP does not condone threats or violence in political campaigns,” he remarked.

AAP’s Statement

In a strongly worded post on X, AAP questioned the deteriorating safety in the national capital. “If a former Chief Minister is not safe in the capital, what will happen to the common man? Delhi’s law and order situation has completely collapsed under BJP rule,” the party claimed.

Past Incidents

This is not the first time Kejriwal has been attacked during public events. In 2016, he was targeted with ink during a visit to Rajasthan. In October this year, AAP alleged that BJP supporters disrupted one of Kejriwal’s rallies in Delhi. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of public figures during election campaigns.

Election Context

With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, AAP has intensified its outreach programs. Kejriwal’s padyatras are part of a broader strategy to engage voters and strengthen grassroots support. During his campaigns, Kejriwal has focused on issues like uninterrupted electricity, quality education, and healthcare, while accusing the BJP of failing to deliver essential services despite ruling in 22 states.

The recent attack adds to the tense political climate as both parties prepare for the upcoming elections.
