A horrifying video capturing the exact moment when Air India Flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport has gone viral on social media. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London’s Gatwick Airport, went down five minutes after departing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The video, widely circulated by news agency PTI, shows the aircraft losing altitude and crashing near Meghnaninagar, a densely populated residential area close to the airport. A thick column of smoke can be seen rising from the crash site in the shocking footage.

🛫 Timeline of Events:
- 1:38 PM: Flight AI171 took off from runway 23 at Ahmedabad Airport.
- ~1:43 PM: The aircraft issued a Mayday call.
- Seconds later: It crashed into a residential zone, damaging parts of a medical students’ hostel.
- Video surfaces: Eyewitnesses captured the descent and crash in real time.
🚨 What Air India Said:
“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025,” the airline confirmed in a statement.
“We are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on our website and X handle.”
So far, authorities have confirmed the presence of 242 individuals on board, including 230 passengers, 10 crew members, and 2 pilots. A significant number were Indian and British nationals.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating, and rescue teams including the NDRF have been deployed. Air India has activated a passenger helpline at 1800 5691 444.
