China to Unveil World’s Highest Bridge in June, Slashing Travel Time From One Hour to One Minute

Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, taller than the Eiffel Tower, to become a landmark of Chinese engineering and tourism with record-breaking height and speed of construction.

Beijing, April 11:
China is set to open the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in June 2025 — a record-breaking marvel of engineering that will become the world’s highest bridge, drastically reducing travel time across a vast canyon from one hour to just one minute.

The mammoth structure, built at a cost of £216 million (₹2200 crore), soars over 200 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower and is expected to become a key tourist destination in the mountainous Guizhou province.

Spanning two miles over the deep canyon — dubbed the “Earth’s crack” — the bridge is supported by 22,000 metric tonnes of steel trusses, reportedly installed in just two months.

A Global Engineering Landmark

Chief Engineer Li Zhao shared his pride:

“Witnessing my work become something tangible — watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand tall above the canyon — gives me a profound sense of achievement and pride.”

Politician Zhang Shenglin added that the superstructure will boost Guizhou’s ambition of becoming a global tourist hub.

Tourism Meets Innovation

In addition to being a vital transit link, the bridge will feature a glass walkway, living zones, and the world’s highest bungee jump, drawing adventurers and tourists from across the globe.

The Huajiang bridge joins a growing list of sky-high structures in China — nearly half of the world’s 100 tallest bridges are located in the country, especially in remote provinces where such feats dramatically improve connectivity.

In 2016, China inaugurated the Beipanjiang Bridge, previously the highest in the world at 1,854 feet, a record now set to be broken by this newest architectural wonder.
