Chiranjeevi Sparks Controversy Over Comments on His Grandfather: ‘Had Two Wives… Maybe Four or Five, I Don’t Know’
February 12, 2025: Hyderabad: Megastar Chiranjeevi has once again found himself in the middle of controversy after his comments at the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam went viral. While the event was meant to promote Brahmanandam’s son Raja Goutham’s upcoming film, it was Chiranjeevi’s statements about his maternal grandfather that grabbed headlines.

During the event, anchor Suma displayed a picture of Chiranjeevi’s maternal grandfather on screen, referring to him as a “great personality.” When asked to share more about him, Chiranjeevi surprised the audience by saying:

“He is my mom’s father, Radha Krishna Naidu. He is from Nellore but settled in Mogalthur, where he retired as a state excise inspector. Often at home, they would tell me to become like anyone else but him.”
What followed next left many in shock. Chiranjeevi described his grandfather as a ‘rasikudu’ (flirt) and revealed that he had two wives, possibly more.
“He had two homes; I have two grandmothers. Whenever he got mad at both of them, he would go to the third one who lost everything, but he pitied her. These are the three I know, or maybe there are four to five, I don’t know.”
While the crowd at the event cheered and laughed, many netizens found the remarks awkward and inappropriate. Some users felt that Chiranjeevi disrespected his own family by openly discussing such matters in a public space.

🗣 Reactions on X (formerly Twitter):
💬 “Unbelievable… @KChiruTweets. Apne hee Grandfather ki Dhoti khol raha hai Public mein. (Chiranjeevi stripped his grandfather bare in public).”
💬 “This family has no respect for women… his grandfather was (in Chiranjeevi’s own words) a womanizer, and his brother carried his grandfather’s ‘legacy’. Unfortunately, his son Ram Charan has to carry the burden of this sexist, patriarchal mindset.”
💬 “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. First, he says ‘too many girls at home, give birth to a boy,’ and now this? Mega Star is losing his grip on public statements—just like his film career.”
This controversy comes right after another uproar regarding Chiranjeevi’s statement about wanting a grandson to carry forward his legacy. His remark, “I keep telling Charan, at least this time, have a boy, so that our legacy continues”, was criticized for being sexist.
Many believe that the actor’s recent comments in public events are harming his image.
On the work front, Chiranjeevi will next be seen in Vishwambhara, directed by Vassishta. He has also signed projects with Srikanth Odela and Anil Ravipudi.
As fans await his upcoming films, one thing is clear—Chiranjeevi’s off-screen remarks are currently making more noise than his on-screen performances.
