Speaking at the launch event of the Victims of Terrorism Association Network (VOTAN), India’s Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Yojna Patel said Pakistan Defence Minister Khwaja Asif’s admission exposed Islamabad as a “rogue state” that has consistently destabilized the region by funding and training terrorist organizations.

“The whole world has now heard Pakistan’s Defence Minister admitting to their history of supporting terrorism. This confession surprises no one,” Patel said. “Pakistan’s actions have fueled global terrorism, and the world must no longer turn a blind eye.”

Patel further criticized Pakistan for misusing international forums like the UN to indulge in propaganda and make baseless allegations against India. She emphasized that the international community’s strong support for India after the Pahalgam attack — which left 26 civilians dead — shows growing global intolerance for terrorism.

Referring to Khwaja Asif’s recent interview with Sky News, where he stated that Pakistan had “done dirty work for the US and the West” for decades by backing terrorist groups, Patel said such admissions are damning and cannot be ignored.

“The Pahalgam attack is the deadliest on civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks,” Patel noted, reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting terror victims through initiatives like VOTAN, which aims to offer a structured, safe space for survivors.

Patel reiterated the UN Security Council’s firm condemnation of the Pahalgam attack, stressing that terrorism in all forms must be unequivocally denounced.

In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty and revoked visas of Pakistani nationals, signaling a sharp deterioration in bilateral ties. Pakistan retaliated by suspending all bilateral agreements, including the historic Simla Accord.
