Congress Leader Who Fat-Shamed Rohit Sharma Drags Kangana Ranaut Into Controversy
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed is facing severe backlash after fat-shaming Rohit Sharma during India’s Champions Trophy clash against New Zealand. While the remarks have been widely criticized, Mohamed has now shifted focus to a 2021 tweet by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, where the actor had used derogatory language for the Indian captain.
Taking aim at Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who condemned her remarks, Mohamed asked if the BJP would hold Kangana accountable for her past statements.
In a since-deleted 2021 tweet, Kangana Ranaut criticized Rohit Sharma during the farmers’ protest, calling him a “dhobi ka kutta” (a Hindi slang term used pejoratively). She claimed cricketers were afraid to speak against the “terrorists” creating unrest.
Mohamed, in response to Mandaviya’s condemnation of her comments, questioned:
“What do you have to say about Kangana Ranaut’s remarks on Rohit Sharma?”

Following the uproar, the Congress distanced itself from Mohamed’s comments, stating that they do not reflect the party’s position. Congress leader Pawan Khera clarified that she had been asked to delete her posts and exercise caution in the future.
However, Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Ray backed Mohamed’s comments, claiming Rohit Sharma’s performance had been below par and that India wins because of other players.
The BJP slammed Congress, calling it a desperate attempt to attack national icons. Party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari remarked:
“Shame on Congress! Now they are going after the Indian Cricket Captain! Do they expect Rahul Gandhi to play cricket after failing in Indian politics?”
The BCCI also issued a statement, with Secretary Devajit Saikia calling Mohamed’s remarks “unfortunate and potentially demoralizing” for the team.
Despite criticism, Rohit Sharma has led India to multiple victories, including:
✅ T20 World Cup 2024
✅ Asia Cup Titles (2023, 2018)
✅ 5 IPL Titles with Mumbai Indians
As India prepares for its Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia, Rohit Sharma remains one of the most successful captains in modern cricket.
