In a night to forget at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered their lowest-ever total at home, managing just 103/9 in 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 25 of IPL 2025. On a day that marked MS Dhoni’s return to captaincy, the iconic wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed for just 1 run, batting at an unusual No. 9 position.

Only Shivam Dube showed resistance, scoring a gritty 31, ensuring CSK avoided their all-time lowest IPL score of 79.
Innings Summary:
CSK 103/9 (20 overs)
Top scorer: Shivam Dube (31)
Best bowlers: Narine 3/15, Chakravarthy 2/17, Harshit Rana 2/16
A Shaky Start and No Recovery
CSK lost early wickets and never recovered. Promoting Ravichandran Ashwin and using Deepak Hooda as an Impact Player didn’t help either. Even Dhoni’s presence couldn’t stabilize the innings as he was trapped LBW by Narine and dismissed after a failed DRS call.
This match now marks CSK’s worst-ever batting display at home, surpassing their previous lowest of 109 vs Mumbai Indians in 2019.
KKR need just 104 runs to secure their third win of the season.
