Deadly Clashes Leave 41 Dead in Balochistan; Pak Army Chief Visits Area

General Asim Munir reassures security and vows justice as violence escalates in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.

February 2, 2025: Islamabad: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, visited Balochistan on Saturday following violent clashes that claimed the lives of 18 security personnel and 23 militants within the last 24 hours. The province, plagued by insurgent activity, witnessed intensified operations by the military to curb terrorism.

Military Operations Intensify

The Pakistan military launched a series of operations across troubled regions of Balochistan. In Harnai district on Saturday, 11 militants were killed, and multiple hideouts destroyed. The previous night, security forces thwarted an attempt by militants to establish roadblocks in Mangocher, Kalat, resulting in the deaths of 12 terrorists.

A military spokesperson confirmed that “23 terrorists have been sent to hell in different operations in Balochistan over the past 24 hours,” adding that these sanitisation operations will continue until all perpetrators and facilitators are brought to justice.

Unrest in Balochistan

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest and resource-rich province, remains underdeveloped and plagued by insurgent attacks targeting security forces and non-local communities. Baloch extremists, along with groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have escalated violence in the region.

The TTP recently resumed its insurgency after breaking a ceasefire agreement, contributing to a surge in terror attacks. In 2024, Pakistan recorded 444 attacks, resulting in 685 security personnel fatalities—the deadliest toll in a decade.

Reassurance Amid Crisis

The army chief reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Balochistan’s residents, emphasizing a resolve to dismantle all terrorist networks operating in the region.
