Delhi Elections 2025: Election Commission Issues Strict Guidelines Ahead of Polls

48-Hour Silent Period Begins; Political Campaigning, Ads, and Media Engagement Prohibited

New Delhi, February 3: With just two days left before Delhi heads to the polls, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi has issued a strict directive to all political parties regarding election-related activities in the final 48 hours leading up to voting day. The notice enforces a “silent period” to ensure a fair and impartial electoral process.

Campaigning and Public Meetings Prohibited

In an official statement addressed to all recognized national and state political parties, R Alice Vaz, CEO of Delhi, outlined the restrictions that must be followed during this crucial period.

“Political leaders, star campaigners, and contesting candidates are strictly prohibited from convening, holding, attending, joining, or addressing any public meeting or procession related to the elections during this period,” the notice stated.

Ban on Political Advertisements

The directive also prohibits political advertisements on all media platforms, including:
Television & Radio
Cable Channels & Internet
Websites & Social Media
Projectors & Live Media Broadcasts

“No advertisements of political nature may be telecast or broadcast through these means during the 48-hour period before polling day,” the notice emphasized.

No Media Interaction for Candidates and Party Leaders

Additionally, the CEO’s office has warned political leaders, star campaigners, and candidates against engaging with the media during this period.

“Candidates should refrain from addressing press conferences or giving interviews on election matters,” the statement added.

Political Parties Urged to Ensure Compliance

The CEO’s office has urged all parties to strictly inform and educate their leaders and candidates about these regulations to prevent violations that could disrupt the integrity of the elections.

“I am directed to request you to ensure that the leaders of your party are aware of these restrictions,” the notice concluded.

Final Countdown to Delhi Elections 2025

Monday marks the last day of campaigning before Delhi votes on Wednesday, February 5. The results will be declared on February 8, deciding the fate of candidates in the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly.

With election fever at its peak, all eyes are now on Delhi’s voters, who will play a crucial role in shaping the city’s political landscape.
