Delta Plane Catches Fire at Orlando Airport, 282 Passengers Evacuated via Emergency Slides-Watch

Flight to Atlanta halted after engine bursts into flames during taxi; FAA launches investigation, no injuries reported.

Orlando, April 22, 2025:
A major scare unfolded at Orlando International Airport on Monday when a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Atlanta caught fire on the tarmac, prompting an urgent emergency evacuation of all 282 passengers aboard. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft began taxiing toward the runway. According to CNN, citing statements from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Delta Air Lines, one of the aircraft’s two engines suddenly caught fire, causing visible flames to erupt from the tailpipe. A video captured by a passenger from the terminal shows a dramatic burst of fire from the plane’s right engine.

Delta confirmed the crew followed all standard emergency procedures.

“Delta flight crews followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines were observed,” the airline said in a statement.

Emergency slides were deployed, and all passengers were safely evacuated without injuries.

“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety, and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” the statement added.

The FAA has initiated a formal investigation into the cause of the engine fire. In the meantime, Delta is arranging alternate flights to help passengers reach their destinations, while maintenance teams inspect the affected aircraft.
